Seminars

Interstate Brick has developed educational programs that cover numerous topics relevant to the clay and concrete masonry industry. Our courses are registered with the AIA, the canadian  province associations, and other industry professional organizations. All courses are offered in live seminar and virtual webinar formats, except the plant tours which must take place on location. Click here to find a brick consultant and register today.

ISB 003 – Movement Issues in Brick Design
Gain a wholistic analytic mindset about how buildings react to climate, earth movement, and exterior forces. Learn the performance characteristics of clay units both as veneer and structural elements. Think your way through a successful design that will last and write a successful specification to execute it.

Locations: Available nationwide

Learning Units: 1.0/HSW

ISB 004 – ASTM Standards for Brick Manufacturing
Become familiar with the various ASTM standards and testing procedures for clay unit products. Gain knowledge about each of the applicable standards, what the test results represent, and which standards to use when writing specifications for your project. This program can be tailored to architects, specifications writers or engineers.

ISB 006 – Brick Manufacturing Process and Plant Tour

Don your boots and visit a century-old brick manufacturing plant located in Utah to observe the comprehensive process of creating fired clay units from raw materials. Learn how clay is mined, extruded, shaped, textured, dried, and fired to create a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Review performance and physical characteristics of brick in the built environment. Top off your tour by testing your skill at brick carving!

Locations: West Jordan, UT

Learning Units: 1.0/HSW

ISB 010 – Structural Brick Curtain Walls
Learn the concept, design, application, construction and properties of curtain walls built with structural brick. Gain knowledge about moisture and thermal analysis concepts of different structural brick curtain walls and their impact on the energy requirements of the building.  You will see examples of buildings that achieved low life cycle, energy, and maintenance costs by using this long-lasting, flexible and environmentally friendly wall system. If only LeCorbusier could see you now!

ISB 200 – Enhancing Resiliency-The Role of Reinforced Hollow Clay Masonry

Resiliency is a popular buzzword now, but what does it mean, and how does it relate to the built environment? In this presentation you will drill down into these questions and more. We will discuss resiliency as it relates to society (personal/community), and architecture. Learn the process of brick making to understand its physical properties and how those properties relate to resilient performance. See how testing performed on hollow structural clay masonry demonstrates structural brick’s durability and resistance to fire, projectiles, and ballistics. See examples of resilient construction and potential applications and uses for your next project.
